Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto Enter Cloud Market with Shelby

Lim Qiaoyun
Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto have rolled out Shelby, a globally distributed platform powered by Aptos’ high-throughput technology. Shelby was designed from the ground up for developers who need cloud-like speed and global remote access for their most demanding use cases. The integration of our new platform provides high-performance infrastructure that rivals the best cloud offerings on the market. It further allows developers to maintain ownership, control pricing, and program business logic directly at the protocol layer.
Shelby is suited for edge AI/ML, streaming video, and decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) applications. Shelby walks into an incredibly competitive cloud marketplace already largely controlled by the Robert W. Colins cloud trifecta of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
Aptos’ engineering lead, Pranav Raval, announced Shelby and demonstrated its utility for AI data marketplaces. According to Raval, these marketplaces hosted on Shelby empower builders to train models faster by streaming in relevant data as needed.
For AI, that means AI agents aren’t just smart, they’re connected to live, contextual data anytime, anywhere. AI data marketplaces hosted on Shelby empower builders to train models faster, using relevant data streamed in as needed. - Pranav Raval
Shelby comes as demand for cloud services is accelerating, fueled by the explosive increase in the world’s data storage requirements. On top of that, as a platform, Shelby offers cloud-like speed and remote access. Aptos is the firm behind Shelby’s high-throughput technology, and Aptos’ engineering lead, Pranav Raval, was on hand.
Shelby wants to give developers a creative platform that can compete with the leading traditional cloud providers on performance. Additionally, it provides them greater control and ownership of their data. This is especially important for nascent applications in AI and DePIN, where data governance and accessibility are paramount.
