Spain Introduces First Regulated Web3 Venture Capital Fund

Lim Qiaoyun
Tritemius Fund FCRE I has started up as Spain’s first regulated venture capital fund entirely dedicated to the Web3 space. We want this fund to be the connective tissue between Europe, Latin America, and other emerging markets in the blockchain technology world. Tritemius Fund FCRE I is registered and authorized by the CNMV as European Venture Capital Fund (FCRE).
Tritemius Fund FCRE I was established to address a blockchain investment gap. It focuses on underserved founders and focuses on startups from the Pre-Seed all the way to pre-Series A rounds. The fund’s average investment per company is €500,000, with more capital set aside for follow-on rounds.
Luis Pastor, CEO and co-founder of Tritemius Capital, is credited with the fund’s creation. The fund is managed by Abante, a Spanish wealth management and financial advisory firm with more than €1.5 billion in private markets. Joining Whelan on the advisory team as an independent advisor with blockchain experience is John Whelan.
"We strongly believe in the potential of Web3 and in the need for a fund that goes beyond capital by offering strategic insight and a valuable network for founders." - Luis Pastor
Tritemius Fund FCRE I identifies key Web3 trends, including usability and scalability improvements through innovations like intents, account abstraction, and zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP). The fund is particularly optimistic about growth in DeFi, DePIN, and decentralized social networks. Cybersecurity tools for more decentralized ecosystems and bridges between traditional finance and Web3 are exciting, too.
"We're looking for projects that not only show strong growth potential but also deliver real, disruptive solutions in decentralization and cybersecurity." - Pastor
Startup selection hinges on the founding team and the scope of the opportunity, considering market size, competition, and business model.
"We want startups to feel like we speak their language — that's vital in such a specialized sector. But at the same time, we're deeply rooted in the regulatory and institutional landscape." - Pastor
